Late-season turkeys can make exciting quarry

Late-season turkeys can make exciting quarry. It's late turkey Season, and many turkey hunters have given up on late season hunting in favor of spring yard work. But if you haven't filled your turkey permit, don't give up. Many of the late-season toms belong to the lonely-hearts club because most hens have been mated, making responsive hens harder to call in. With just over a week to go in the 2009 season, now may be the time to harvest that large tom. He can be just as responsive to a well positioned hen decoy and mouth call as he might have been when the early spring season began.
While it's true that late spring season turkeys can be wary from having been hunted hard, in isolated areas, gobblers may not have been bothered. The toms that have beenhunted may still come to the late season turkey hunter who is quiet and patient. Sitting tight and laying off the calls can add up to success. Low clucks sparingly used may be the one of the best tactics in late season.
Turkey Hunters who haven't bagged a top this spring, or those who still have a tag to fill, shouldn't throw in the towel yet. The crappie will still be around once that big tom is stuffed and mounted.

In Kansas the 2009 spring turkey hunting season goes through May 31, 2009. Turkey permits allow hunters to use either a shotgun or a bow.. Article Source: http://arsharing.com
